Supervision Feature: Parents can choose YouTube videos for their kids

YouTube announced that it is starting a new feature that would allow the parents to control their kids’ watching list on the Youtube platform.

This feature will help parents present their children to age-related content only and put them away from improper videos.

The feature will be ready in the main YouTube app and not the Kids app. Initially, it will be available to the beta testers and rolled out for a universal audience in the upcoming months.

YouTube has announced in a blog post that it will start the supervision feature in beta for parents to concede their children to access YouTube through a supervised Google Account.

“This supervised experience will begin with content settings and restricted features. We’ll begin with an early beta for families with kids below the age of consent to test and give feedback as we continue to develop and enhance the experience,” the blog stated.

YouTube will present three different content settings to pick from.

The settings include Explore, Explore More, and Most of YouTube. The Explore setting is for children who are too old for YouTube Kids.

Allowing this feature would enable kids to see a broad range of videos usually suitable for kids ages 9+, including vlogs, tutorials, gaming videos, music clips, news, educational content, and more.

In the Explore More setting, viewers will be ready to watch a more extensive set of videos and live streams in identical categories as “Explore.”

This setting is fit for children who are preceding the age of 13. The third setting is named Most of YouTube, this setting will include almost all videos on YouTube, except for age-restricted content, and it holds sensitive topics that may only be suitable for older teens.

“When a parent presents access to YouTube, their child’s participation will appear much like regular YouTube, but some features will be disabled to preserve younger audiences. For example, we won’t serve personalized ads or ads in certain sections. At launch, we’ll also disable in-app purchases, as well as creation and comments features. Since self-expression and community are essential parts of YouTube and children’s development, over time, we’ll serve with parents and specialists to add some of these features through an age-appropriate and parent-controlled approach,” the YouTube blog mentioned.
