iPhone users report battery drain problems after iOS 14.2 update

iPhone users have reported encountering battery drain problems after updating their phones to iOS 14.2. The battery drain problem has surfaced on the older iPhone models, including the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone X, iPhone 7, and the iPhone SE (2020).

Not just the iPhone users, the problem appears to have changed the iPad users who have updated their devices to iPad 14.2

iPhone users have posted their complaints on Apple Developer Forums and Reddit about the battery issues.

The report of the iPhone beginning battery drain surfaced soon after. Users have arrived on Reddit that their devices are draining over 50 percent battery in less than 30 minutes. They have also marked a significant drop in battery around five percent within minutes of regular use.

“I updated my iPhone 7+ to iOS 14.2, and now I have a battery drain problem, and it needs a long time to be charged and warmup during charging,” one user posted on Reddit.

While another user posted on Twitter, “ @AppleSupport @Apple updated my iPhone 11 to iOS 14.2 & seeing quite a lot of battery drain & phone is not even 12 months old yet. Not a great update to the iOS and I’ll be moving over to android for my next phone as not good enough for not even a 1-year-old device.”

One of the users on the Apple Developers forum has stated that his battery was a little fine before the update, but after the update, the battery is draining pretty fast.

“My phone battery was excellent before the update, now, it goes to one percent from 70 percent in a matter of minutes,” the user wrote.

Earlier, iPhone users had reported problems with the iOS 14 update. Apple had supported the concerns and told the users to delete their content and settings from their iPhones to fix the issue. Apple is yet to respond to the problems caused by the iOS 14.2 update.

The issues were found mostly in older iPhones, and no cases of battery drain have been published by iPhone 12 users yet. However, some iPhone 12 users had reported battery issues on the Apple forum but have not considered the cause.

A user wrote, “I’m noticing that the iPhone 12 Pro is draining when idle with virtually no background activity at a rate of 4 percent which is much faster than my previous iPhone 11 Pro. First instinct was to disable Mobile data to see if it was a 5G thing, but I don’t see any real difference from doing that (which makes sense as I’ve been on Wi-Fi 98 percent of the time since I got it)”.
